Glad you could make it. I just want to take a few lines to explain this blog…
About Why: Through my years of trying to navigate the world of investing and trading, I have grown exceedingly tired of baseless claims. Basically, most of these so-called experts claim they can tell you what is going to happen in a market in the future.Judging from basic (not-so-) common sense, some painfully lost investments, and years of frustration and confusion, I have learned a few things:
No one can foresee the future.
Anyone who wants you to pay for their opinion could make more money if they just invested themselves...that is, IF their opinions are worth anything.
Pay someone for what they DO for you, not their opinion.
I decided to start this site for two reasons:1) to help me elucidate and keep track of my own ideas better by having to put them on paper, and 2) to share what I have learned and hopefully learn from readers.
About Evidence Investing: Some time ago I set out on a journey to find out sometruth in investing.Due to my training as a physician, I strongly believe in the value of ‘evidenced based practices.’That is, doing or reading true research and applying the evidence to your own practices (in our case, investing). What is true research?Well, that is sometimes a sticky question, but generally it is defined as unbiased statistically significant studies employing scientific methods which reach some sort of actionable rigorous conclusion.Often not the conclusion you wanted or were expecting…but that’s the fun of it.So…
About My Promise To You: It is my intention to always list a credible source and in the vast majority of cases provide rigorous research for what I write about in this blog…either journal articles, primary research, or even popular press citations. Also, I will always strive to give you actionable information. And I ask two things from you: email my and take me to task if I don’t have a good source listed and help be my eyes and ears for new research (email me for both).
About How This Blog Works: There are a handful of major areas of investing that I will be focusing the majority of my attention on.While this will be presented in a blog-type format on the main page, each post with be labeled with one of the major areas. Also, the other pages will serve as an ‘index’ where you can view all the posts about a particular area. Here I give the one liner explanation of the pages:
Home: This is the main page. All the posts will show up here in normal reverse chronology blog order.
These pages are collections of all the blog posts from a certain area of focus. They are also in typical blog order.
Rotation:Asset rotation. Incorporates timing, momentum, yield curve investing, etc, etc.
Cloning:Portfolio cloning, to be exact. I’ll explain it to you…Check the first post of that section.
Big Plays: These are single macroeconomic non-systemic plays that I think are worth doing.
Eco-Political:General economic and political info.I will try to keep this investing focused but I will often stray into the broader economy. Not always actionable. PLUS: whatever happens to be on my mind...
About Me:I am an amateur investor with only an average amount of investment capital and no managed accounts.Investing, trading, finance, and the economy are (for lack of a better word) my hobby.Luckily I have been able to gain some formal education in these areas (CPA and a MBA from Booth at the University of Chicago…yes, it’s the best) and a ton of informal education (reading, obsessing, and doing).
While I may not be posting everyday, I really hope I earn a book mark or a RSS feed from you…Have fun and good luck!
